KUALA LUMPUR – Several Kedah UMNO leaders today had a meeting with Prime Minister and UMNO President Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak over the leadership crisis in the state.
The meeting took place at the Dewan Tun Hussein Onn at the Putra World Trade Centre here.
Najib arrived for the meeting at 4.45pm.
Also seen entering the hall were Kedah UMNO Liaison Committee deputy chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah; Kubang Pasu UMNO Division head Datuk Mohd Johari Baharum; Jerai UMNO Division head Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom.
Padang Terap UMNO Division head Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid; Baling UMNO Division head Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim and Langkawi UMNO Division head Datuk Ir Nawawi Ahmad.
Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir did not attend the meeting, according to a text message sent by his press secretary.
Last Wednesday, 14 of the 15 Kedah UMNO divisional leaders expressed no-confidence in the leadership of Mukhriz as the menteri besar and chairman of the state UMNO liaison committee.
Several Kedah UMNO leaders declined comment on today’s meeting with Najib.
Kedah UMNO Wanita chief Datuk Maznah Hamid said: “Cannot say anything.”
Sik MP Dr Mansor Abd Rahman also declined comment while Abdul Azeez said: “OK. Praise be to God.” – BERNAMA
