KUALA LUMPUR – The speakers at the “Session With UMNO Deputy President’ yesterday raised the same old issues that had been raised over the last one year, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak.
He said there was really nothing new which the speakers had to say other than what they had already said many times.
“For example, the MACC (Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission) which has been tasked with the job of investigating the RM2.6 billion donation, has already issued its statement today, and statements regarding 1MDB (1Malaysia Development Berhad) have also been issued more than once,” he said in his latest post on his blog http://sskeruak.blogspot.com/ last night.
“Apparently they are not too interested in the replies although they said they want replies. But when replies are given they ignore the replies and keep asking the same questions again and again,” Salleh said.
In his blog, Salleh also commented on the suggestion made by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad at the gathering that the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) be used against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
“To suggest that Sosma be used against Najib is an abuse of that anti- terrorism law. In what way is 1MDB or the RM2.6 billion an act of terrorism?,” Salleh asked.
“First they scream corruption. Now they allege terrorism. They are no longer consistent in their statements,” he said.
“What they really want, as they admitted tonight, is for Prime Minister (Datuk Seri) Najib Tun Razak to resign. That is really what it is all about. They even suggested he takes leave and come back later as Prime Minister once he has been cleared, which is not at all practical,” he said.
Last night, UMNO deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin attended the “Session With UMNO Deputy President”, which was also attended by Dr Mahathir and UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, at Sultan Sulaiman Club in Kampung Baru, here.
During the event, the former deputy prime minister touched on various current issues including 1MDB, the position of the nation’s economy, UMNO affairs, and the UMNO General Assembly. – BERNAMA
