MELAKA: A self-employed man was sent to the gallows by the High Court here today after he was found guilty of trafficking in 449.89gm of cannabis two years ago.
Judge Datuk Zulkifli Bakar handed down the sentence on Ahmad Norizan Mohamad, 32, after finding that the prosecution had succeeded in establishing the case beyond reasonable doubt.
Ahmad Norizan was jointly charged with one Nor Mira Jemli, 20, with trafficking in the drug at a house at Kondo Pandan Wangi, Jalan Klebang Kecil here at 5.15 pm on April 22, 2013.
They were also jointly charged with possession of 110.28gm of cannabis at the same, place, time and date, for which Ahmad Norizan was sentenced to 10 years’ jail and 10 strokes of the cane.
However, Zulkifli acquitted and discharged Nor Mira on both charges.
Ahmad Norizan was also sentenced to another 10 years’ jail and 10 strokes of the cane on another charge, involving possession of 62.65gm of cannabis in front of an automatic gate of the same condominium at 4.50 pm on the same day.
Zulkifli ordered Ahmad Norizan to serve the jail sentences consecutively.
Lawyer Mohd Hilmy Samsudin represented both the accused, while the prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Nurfarhana Ahmad.
