SHAH ALAM – The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah today gave his consent and granted an audience to five new members of Selangor Islamic Religious Council at the Istana Bukit Kayangan here.
The Sultan also presented them with the letters of appointment, which took effect on Jan 1.
They are Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi, who is State Islamic Religious Affairs, Malay Customs and Heritage, Rural and Traditional Village Development Committee chairman; Datuk Haris Kassim, who is Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) director; Datuk Abdul Samah Mat, who is former Selangor Police chief; Assoc Prof Datin Paduka Saudah Sulaiman, who is senior lecturer at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Faculty of Law; and Datin Paduka Norazlina Zakaria, who is Worldwide Holdings Berhad chief executive officer.
The appointment of the five new members brought the total number of Mais line-up for the 2015-2017 term to 20, with Datuk Mohamad Adzib as the chairman.
Also present at the ceremony were Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali and State Secretary Datuk Mohammed Khusrin Munawi.
Meanwhile, Mohamad Adzib in a statement said that Mais would empower the management of cases involving Islamic law by ensuring that its religious enforcement officers received adequate training and exposure to handle such case.
He said priority would also be given to Syariah cases so that the cases would be solved immediately.
“Besides, Mais would also continue to empower Islamic non-governmental organisations in helping Mais to protect the faith of Muslims, while carrying out their preaching activity effectively in the state,” he said. – BERNAMA
