KUALA LUMPUR – The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, today chaired the 236th meeting of the Conference of Rulers at the Istana Negara.
The meeting was attended by all the Malay rulers, except the sultans of Johor and Pahang who sent their representatives, and the Yang Dipertuas Negeri. Kelantan was not represented at the meeting.
The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, was represented by the Tunku Temenggong of Johor, Tunku Idris Iskandar Sultan Ibrahim, while the Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah, was represented by the Tengku Muda of Pahang, Tengku Abdul Rahman Sultan Ahmad Shah.
The rulers were accompanied to the meeting by the respective menteris besar while the Yang Dipertuas Negeri of Penang, Melaka, Sabah and Sarawak were accompanied by their respective chief ministers.
Chief of Defence Forces Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar and Economic Planning Unit director-general Datuk Dr Rahamat Bivi Yusoff also attended the meeting.
The Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal, Datuk Seri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad, said in a statement that Zulkifeli and Khalid briefed the meeting on national defence and security while Dr Rahamat gave a briefing on the economy.
He also said that the meeting also discussed matters pertaining to Islamic affairs as well as the appointment of members of the Education Service Commission, the Auditor General and judges of the superior courts.
Syed Danial said the meeting also discussed the Yang di-Pertuan Agong scholarships for the 2014-2015 academic session. – BERNAMA
