ALOR SETAR – The Muda Agricultural Development Authority (MADA) believes that seed coating has the ability to overcome threats posed by apple snails against young rice paddies.
Its president Datuk Othman Aziz said the threat posed by one of rice paddy’s prime adversaries could cause annual losses of almost RM80 million.
“So we are confident (after discussions with certain companies), that seed coating can overcome this problem, because seeds play an important role in achieving high yields,” he said here today.
He was speaking to reporters after a media briefing relating to pests and diseases affecting rice plantations in Muda areas during the second season of 2014. – BERNAMA
