KUALA LUMPUR – A security guard was sentenced to two months in jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today for causing injury to his friend, who suffered bruises to the lips and face earlier this month.
Magistrate Nur A’minahtul Madriah Md Nor meted out the sentence on J. Tunie, 32, who pleaded guilty to punching and kicking Li XiXiang, 23, in front of Sungei Wang Plaza at Jalan Sultan Ismail, Dang Wangi, here at 9pm on July 7.
The Magistrate ordered Tunie to serve his jail time from his date of arrest on July 7.
The charge, under Section 323 of the Penal Code, provides imprisonment for up to two years or fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.
During mitigation, Tunie who was represented by counsel Cyrus Tiu, asked for a light sentence saying, “the accused has to take care of his parents; his mother has breast cancer; furthermore he has already been remanded for 6 days and has repented”.
Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Zamri Fadhly urged the court to give a deterrent sentence as a lesson to Tunie. – BERNAMA
