BALIK PULAU – A security guard has been charged with the murder of 17-year-old Intan Suraya Mawardi at the magistrates’ court here.
The accused, Tarmizi Yaakob, who was clad in a grey short-sleeved T-shirt, arrived at the court building and was led straight to the lock-up at 8.15am before proceedings began at 10.05am.
Tarmizi was charged with murdering Intan Suraya between 7.30am and 7.30pm at Flat Bandar Baru Perda, Teluk Kumbar, Bayan Lepas, on Oct 25.
The charge fell under Section 302 of the Penal Code and Tarmizi faces the death penalty if convicted.
No plea was recorded.
Magisrate Nurul Rasyidah Mohd Akit set Jan 13 next year for mention pending a DNA report.
It was reported that Intan Suraya was found semi-nude in a pool of blood on her bed at a flat in Teluk Kumbar near here on Oct 25.
The girl’s body was discovered by her father, a 36-year-old customer service officer at the Penang International Airport, when he returned home from work at 6.30pm.
It was reported that police said the girl was raped and her throat slit by the accused in a fit of jealousy.
