KUALA LUMPUR – Laos chalked up their first victory in Group B of the football competition in the 2015 SEA Games after defeating Brunei 2-1 at Bishan Stadium in Singapore, last night.
Laos who were hammered 0-6 by defending champions Thailand in the opening match on Friday, broke the deadlock in the 11th minute through Khochalern Phoutthasay before Brunei levelled the tie courtesy of Muhammad Azwan Ali Rahman’s strike in the 68th minute.
Natphasouk Soukchinda turned out to be the hero for Laos when he struck the winning goal six minutes later, said the Singapore’s SEA Games website www.seagames2015.com.
Malaysia who scored a 1-0 unconvincing win against minnows Timor Leste in their Group B opening match on Saturday, will face a tricky match against Vietnam at the same venue on Tuesday (June 2).
Vietnam who emerged victorious in football in the first SEA Games known as the SEAP Games in 1959 in Thailand, trashed Brunei 6-0 in Group B on Friday.
Tomorrow, Thailand who are gunning for their 15th gold medal in football, will square off against Timor Leste at Bishan Stadium while hosts Singapore will kick off their campaign against Philippines in Group A at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
