KUALA LUMPUR – A man who collected scrap metal and unwanted cardboxes for a living to support his ailing mother was sentenced to two months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today for stealing two aluminium ladders.
Magistrate Mohd Azali Ibrahim handed down the sentence on Muhammad Fakry Ariffin, 27, who pleaded guilty to the theft,
Muhammad Fakry, who was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of arrest, was charged with stealing the two aluminium ladders belonging to one Lean Tam Hen, 58,n in front of a house in Sungai Way near here at 9.15 am last Oct 5.
In mitigation, lawyer Mohd Hamzah Zulkifli, representing Muhammad Fakry, said his client was suffering from pneumonia and could not afford to pay fine and was also supporting an ailing mother.
