KUANTAN – The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) technical director Fritz Schmid has been given an ultimatum to prove his capability or face the sack.
FAM president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah said Schmid has been given a year and FAM will monitor the performance of the Swiss closely before making any decision.
“We will given him one more year to prove himself before making any decision. Should he fail to deliver, we will not hesitate to drop him. Schmid is only a technical director and not more than that,” he told reporters after launching the Mahkota Golf and Country Club here yesterday.
He said the FAM would drop anyone who failed to bring changes and success to the national football team, including the FAM president.
Earlier, the media had reported that several parties had disputed the credibility of Schmid, 56, who was deemed lazy for failing to go down to the ground and had allegedly failed to contribute toward the betterment of the national football team.
Schmid is said to have a Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) pro coaching certificate and had signed a three-year contract with the FAM. – Bernama
