KUCHING – Target groups such as the needy and disabled persons in Sarawak are expected to receive a raise in their welfare payment starting next year.
Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem said today the matter would be announced at the tabling of the 2016 state budget during the state legislative assembly sitting in November.
“As the Sarawak state revenue will increase slightly, next November I will raise the welfare payment for the disabled, poor and so forth,” he said when presenting Ramadan donations to the target groups, organised by the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry here.
Also present were Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim and Sarawak Welfare, Women and Family Development Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah.
Adenan however did not disclose any details on the increased amount to be given to the eligible recipients.
“I have also request the federal government in Kuala Lumpur to emulate the state government’s move by raising the welfare payment for the target groups.” he added. – BERNAMA
