SARIKEI – The Sarawak Road Transport Department (RTD) has issued 8,579 summonses for various traffic offences in the first two months of this year, said its director Mohd Syafiq Anas Abdullah.
“A total of 3,850 summonses were issued in January, while the remaining 4,729 were issued in February,” he said.
“Thus, as a measure to further strengthen traffic enforcement, the state RTD will focus on seven main traffic offences and overloading in its road operation this year,” he told reporters after attending an integrated operation here last night.
The seven traffic offences include heavy vehicles driving in the emergency lane continuously, using the mobile phones when driving, not wearing seatbelts, failure to follow traffic lights, overtaking at double lines and driving beyond the speed limit.
Mohd Syafiq said, focus would also be given to reduce accident rate involving motorcyclists and pillion riders by at least 50 per cent. – BERNAMA
