LUNDU: Sarawak Barisan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Adenan Satem is confident that the ruling coalition will form the next government.
He also noted what he perceived as disarray among the Opposition ranks.
“All our 82 candidates have been accepted by the Election Commission as qualified candidates and I just heard the news that two seats Barisan has won uncontested, in Bukit Sari and Bukit Kota.
“On the other hand, I think there is some degree of disarray among Opposition parties.
“We believe there are some areas where the DAP is contesting against the PKR, or put up independents against each other,†Adenan told a media conference after filing his nomination papers here on Monday.
Adenan, who is also the Sarawak Chief Minister, will be defending his Tanjong Datu seat in a straight fight against PKR candidate Jazolkipli Numan.
He said there was also some degree of confusion in the Opposition on the arrangements to register candidates.
“In my case, the proposer and seconder did not bother to come and only the candidate alone came to present his papers.
“I believe in some areas there could be the same thing happening,†he said.
Adenan noted that according to the rules, the candidate himself can present his papers.
“These incidents just goes to show the level of their (the Opposition’s) morale,†he added.
