KUCHING – The 2017 Sarawak Games (SUKSAR) will be held at the Sarawak Sports Complex in Petra Jaya, near here from December 14 to 17.
State Youth, Sports and Solidarity Minister Datuk Seri Michael Manyin Jawong said before SUKSAR, athletes in the state would compete in their respective zones namely Northern Zone (Limbang, Miri and Bintulu), Central Zone (Kapit, Sibu and Mukah), Eastern Zone (Sarikei, Betong and Sri Aman) and Southern Zone (Kuching, Samarahan and Serian).
“SUKSAR is aimed at giving us an opportunity to evaluate the talents of our athletes to represent the state and the country. We hope it could help unearth new athletes for the 2018 Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Perak,” he said.
He was speaking at a media conference and launch of 2017 SUKSAR official logo here today.
Manyin said SUKSAR was open to athletes under 20 years old to represent the state in the next Sukma.
Among the events to be contested at SUKSAR are swimming, diving, weightlifting, cycling, archery, athletics, silat, rugby, sepak takraw, karate, Muay, lawn bowling, judo, bowling and badminton.
The last SUKSAR was held in 1990. – BERNAMA
