KOTA BELUD – Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak today advised teachers to adopt a world-class mindset in educating the people who will eventually lead the country towards prosperous, innovative and competitive progress in various fields at the international level.

He said this was in line with the national education transformation which was aimed at creating ‘glocal’ citizens of local origin with a global outlook.

“Teachers need to instill the desire and intention to ensure that every student has the knowledge, thinking skills, leadership skills, bilingualism, ethics and spiritual outlook as well as national identity as set out in the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025.

“As such, teachers need to be constantly performing tasks switching from the ordinary to the extraordinary, be resilient and futuristic and have a high level of thinking,” he said at a programme in conjunction with the Kota Belud Teachers’ Day celebration at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tambulion here.

Salleh also advised teachers to enhance their knowledge, particularly in relation to the Industrial Revolution 4.0.

He said this would enable teachers to answer all student queries and correct wrong information transmitted via social media that could jeopardise the nation’s human capital development efforts.

“The government strives to develop digital infrastructure in the country, but the people should be cautious about fake news.

“It is for this reason that we must have the knowledge to be able to distinguish the right from the wrong so that we are not influenced by fake news,” he said.

Earlier, Salleh attended a function at SMK Pekan 2 here to witness the handing over of a van to the school.

The RM100,000 van, which can accommodate 14 people including the driver, was donated by MYNIC Bhd, an agency under the Communications and Multimedia Ministry.

MYNIC chief executive officer Datuk Hasnul Fadhly Hasan handed over the keys of the van to the school principal, Liasin Kaloh. – BERNAMA
