JOHOR BAHRU – Johor Darul Ta’zim skipper Safiq Rahim has been given the task to lead the National team in the 2019 Asia Cup Qualifier against Lebanon at the Tan Sri Dato Haji Hassan Yunos Stadium in Larkin, tomorrow.
National coach Nelo Vingada said the 30-year-old was chosen based on his leadership qualities and capability to be the link between the players and to disseminate information about team strategy for tomorrow’s match.
“We was also the skipper before, therefore it is not a new appointment. To me he is a good player with vast experience to shoulder the task,” he told reporters during a press conference to announce tomorrow’s match, here today.
Meanwhile, Safiq who runs the engine room for JDT pledged to put his best foot forward although he acknowledged that it would be a tall order.
Meanwhile, Lebanon coach Miodrag Radulovic said the absence of midfielder Mohammed Ghaddar would not hamper his team’s performance.
“It is Ghaddar’s decision not to play. I don’t care about this. We have other players who can replace him,” he added claiming what was important was for the team to continue its winning momentum after beating Hong Kong 2-0 on March 28, to top Group B.
“It will not be an easy game but we are ready for the game,” he said. – BERNAMA
