KUCHING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was presented with a special kek lapis (layer cake), which was named after his late father Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, during his walkabout programme in Kampung Gersik here today.
The 12-layer kek lapis was specially made for the prime minister by one of the famous layer cake bakers, Mira Cake House, which is operating in the village.
The cake house owner, Ahmad Budiyaman Fauzi, said the cake has a unique taste and that it was made by main ingredients such as oat and chocolate.
“We were only informed about the visit a day earlier.
“All of us were nervous but excited at the same time to be given the privilege of serving a layer cake for the prime minister,” Budiyaman said when met at the village.
Budiyaman said the kek lapis for Najib was made using the traditional method – where every layer was steamed and kept chilled in a refrigerator for a night.
Overall, Budiyaman said, the process to produce the special layer cake took about eight hours.
Kampung Gersik is the first location visited by Najib during his three-day visit to the state until Saturday.
Najib was accompanied by the Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang and Tourism Minister Datuk Abang Johari Openg during his visit at the village.
Earlier, Najib and his entourage crossed the Sarawak river by taking a ride on the Sarawak’s iconic “penambang”, that is used to ferry passengers accross the river, from Kuching Waterfront to the village.
