PETALING JAYA – Former Bar Council president Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan (pic) has been banned from entering Sabah.
She was planning a visit to the eastern state on Nov 25 for a programme with the Negara-ku movement, of which she is a patron.
However, she received a letter from the Sabah Immigration Department upon returning to Malaysia from Hong Kong on Friday, informing her that she would not be allowed in.
The letter was in response to Ambiga’s own letter, which she wrote to the department on Tuesday, informing them of her intention to visit the state.
The Bersih 2.0 co-chairman told an online news portal that she had written the letter only as a formality and to confirm there was no restriction to her entering Sabah.
“They wrote back and rejected my application, even though I was not even applying for permission to enter Sabah,” she was quoted as saying in the report.
Calls and messages to Ambiga on Saturday went unanswered. – The Star Online
