BUKIT MERTAJAM – A total of 123 summon notices were issued by the Road Transport Department (RTD) to errant motorcyclists in a special operation Saturday night.
State RTD director Datuk Hassan Yaacob said the operation, involving the police, National Anti-Drug Agency, the Department of Environment, the Malaysian Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) and the Road safety Department, was aimed at reducing road accidents during the festive holidays.
“Action was taken on 87 motorcycles, including one which was sealed,” he told reporters during the operation at the Juru Toll Plaza (north bound).
He said the summon notices were issued for offences, including riding without valid licence and registration number plate which did not meet the stipulated specification.
In another development, Hassan said RTD, with the cooperation of the Skuad Muda 1JPJ and the Road Safety Department would carry out various programmes to reduce road accidents during the Aidilfitri celebration.
The programmes included stationing RTD members at every 30km distance along state roads and rest and recreation areas and to carry out inspection on buses before they could be allowed to leave the depot or terminal, he added. – BERNAMA
