KUALA LUMPUR – The Prime Minister’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor today watched the Celcom Axiata Malaysia International Challenge 2018 badminton finals at the Juara Stadium here.
Rosmah, who is also the patron of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), presented the medals and mock cheques to the winners of each category.
For the women’s doubles, Malaysian pair, Soong Fie Cho and Tee Jing Yi defeated compatriots Chiew Sien Lim and Sueh Jeou Tan 21-13, 21-10, while for the mixed doubles, Tan Jie Chen and Yen Wei Peck beat Indonesian pair Andika Ramadiansyah and Mychelle Crhystine Bandaso 12-21, 23-21, 21-13.
In the men’s and women’s singles categories, Malaysia failed to win after the national men’s singles player, Tan Jia Wei lost to Taiwan’s Hsueh Hsuan Yi 21-18, 21-19 while Ying Ying Lee lost at the hands of Chinese player Zhiyi Wang 21-10, 22 -24, 21-14.
Meanwhile, the same fate befell national men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia and Wooi Yik Soh who lost to Indonesian pair, Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan 21-17, 17-21, 21-19.
Besides Malaysia, several world badminton powers including Taiwan, China, India, Japan and Thailand participated in the tournament that took place from April 17. – BERNAMA
