KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor tonight receives the Citra Dewangga Award from the Perbadanan Kemajuan Kraftangan Malaysia.
The award, the first-ever of its kind, was given by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture through Kraftangan Malaysia, and was presented by Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Ong Hong Peng, who represented minister Datuk Seri Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz.
Director-General of Kraftangan Malaysia Datuk Mohd Kamil Mohd Ali said the award was given to honour individuals who had contributed in encouraging the development of the local craft industry, especially textile crafts, at the domestic and international levels.
“This award was created specifically for the individual who has promoted local craft arts, especially textile crafts, into a national art form,†he said in his speech at the Citra Dewangga Award Ceremony held in conjunction with National Craft Day 2015, here today.
Meanwhile, Mohd Kamil said, the income generated by the craft industry between 2011 to 2014 was RM1.36 billion.
“This amount is proof that the craft industry is capable of generating income for families as well as the nation,†he said. –BERNAMA
