KUANTAN – A nineteen-month-old baby was killed and his mother in critical condition when the Ford ranger pick-up truck they were travelling in skidded and veered into the opposite lane at the Kuantan by-pass, near Chengal Lempung, here today.
Acting Pahang police traffic assistant staff officer ASP Zainalabidin Othman identified the deceased as Muhammad Fateh Mohamad Afendy, while the injured were his mother, Che Nor Hasanah Che Kamarudian (repeat: Kamarudian), 29, a teacher; father Mohammad Afendy Abdul Aziz, 31, a contractor, who was at the wheel of the pick-up truck, and sister, two-year-old Afifah Huraiyah.
The accident occurred about 10.15 am while the family was returning to Kuantan after spending Aidilfitri with relatives in Kuala Berang and Felda Cerul, Kemaman.
He said two other vehicles, a Honda car and a Toyota Vios car, Cheng Shuh Yien, 27, was also reported in critical condition, while the driver of the Honda car, Rakidin Mohd Dom, 36, a technician, was not injured.
Meanwhile in GEORGE TOWN, a motorcyclist was killed and another was injured when their machines collided at the Thean Teik Highway at about 7.20 am today.
Timur Laut police chief ACP Mior Faridalatrash Wahid identified the deceased as Teh Kooi Seng, 24, who died on the spot.
Teh fell on the road and was run over by a car, he added.
Teh’s body was then sent to Penang Hospital for post mortem. – BERNAMA
