KUALA LUMPUR – The Rural and Regional Development Ministry has allocated RM350 million to build and repair Housing Project for the Hardcore Poor (PPRT) homes starting next year.
Its minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 2,100 PPRT housing units will be built while 12,500 existing units are up for repairs.
According to him, the ministry is also giving priority to Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) to be involved in the repair programme, while at the same time help the village to benefit from the allocations given.
“The cabinet also agreed with the ministry to give priority to JKKK to repair the houses. For example like roof repair, the work is easy, and there is no need to appoint a contractor for the project (restoration),” he said.
He said this when winding up debate on the 2017 Supply Bill in the Dewan Negara today.
Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said RM200 million has been allocated for the National Housing Development Project carried out by Felcra Berhad and the Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority (RISDA) to help rural youth have their own homes.
“The construction of 7,000 housing units will only be reserved for youth and not to be bought for investment or to be rented out,” he said. – BERNAMA
