ROMPIN – The Rural and Regional Development Ministry has approved RM2 million for upgrading of the Arked Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) at Bandar Baru Kuala Rompin, near here.
Its Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal said the arcade would provide additional premises for entrpreneurs and to encourage the youth to venture into business without migrating to the major towns.
“We will provide premises for more local entrepreneurs to conduct their businesses,” he told reporters after a MARA-Community programme at Kuala Rompin here today.
Shafie said that in Pahang itself, the ministry had set aside RM22.2 million through the Skim Pembiayaan Kontrak Ekspress (SPiKE) and RM2.05 million through the Skim Pembiayaan Mudah Jaya (SPiM) for Bumiputera entrepreneurs.
On the Rompin parliamentary by-election tomorrow, Shafie who is also UMNO vice president, said the Barisan Nasional (BN) machinery was still persuading residents to come out and cast their votes.
“Usually at by-elections, the turnout would not be so high as voters would have less enthusiasm compared to the general election,” he said.
BN candidate Datuk Hasan Arifin and PAS’ Nazri Ahmad are the only contenders in the by-election which was called following the demise of Rompin MP Tan Sri Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis in a helicopter crash in Semenyih, Selangor on April 4.
Four hundred and sixty or 84.4 per cent of 545 early voters cast their ballots on Thursday at four polling centres while 52,744 voters are expected to do so tomorrow. – BERNAMA
