KUALA LUMPUR – The government has spent about RM140.3 million on various medical facilities for the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) veterans throughout last year said Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.
He said the amount covered, among others, RM82.56 million to finance the medical expenses such as orthopaedic equipment, implants, hearing aids, eyeglasses and hospital travel claims.
In addition, he said the government also provided support equipment such as wheelchairs, walking sticks, beds and mattresses to patients costing more than RM500,000.
“A sum of RM46.96 million was also spent on dialysis treatments for the benefit of 9,314 veterans, as well another RM10.28 million to assist the veteran’s heirs,” he said in reply to an oral question at the Dewan Rakyat sitting here, today.
He was replying to supplementary question from Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin (PKR-Bukit Katil) who wanted to know more about facilities provided by the government for MAF veterans apart from medical facilities. – BERNAMA
