KUALA LUMPUR – The government will continue the school assistance programme of RM100 aid to primary and secondary school students and RM250 book voucher to students of institutions of higher learning in the country next year.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said RM540 million was allocated to benefit 5.4 million students which would be given starting January next year.
“To ease the burden of school expenses incurred by their parents and guardians, particularly for the low income group, the government will continue the schooling assistance programme,” he said when tabling the 2015 Budget in the Dewan Rakyat here today.
This is the fourth year that the government provides the schooling assistance of RM100.
Najib said the government also agreed to continue to implement the 1Malaysia Book Voucher Programme for the purchase of reference books and instruments that was expected to benefit about 1.3 million students.
“A sum of RM325 million has been allocated for this programme,” he said.
The 1Malaysia Book Voucher Programme for every pre-university and institutions of higher learning students was first introduced during the 2012 Budget. – BERNAMA
