KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit extended last week’s losses to open lower against the US dollar on Monday after investors turned to the safe-haven yen due to the big sell-off on Wall Street.
At 9.20am, the local unit was lower at 4.4060/4130 from 4.3965/3035 against the US dollar on Friday.
The ringgit was traded mostly lower against other emerging currencies.
It traded lower against the Singapore dollar at 3.0604/0669 from 3.0483/0544 on Friday and eased against the yen to 3.7575/7644 from 3.7458/7524.
It rose against the British pound to 6.2852/2969 from 6.3121/3230 but weakened against the euro to 4.8034/8128 from 4.7917/7011. – Bernama
