KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened slightly firmer against the U.S. dollar today on profit taking but the local unit was softer against other major currencies, dealers said.
At 9.15 am, the local currency opened slightly higher at 3.4925/4955 against the greenback from 3.4940/4960 at yesterday’s closing.
They said traders took profit on the US dollar after the recent rally, but the greenback remained on the uptrend on optimism over the world’s largest economy.
The ringgit opened lower against the Singapore dollar at 2.6430/6473 from 2.6388/6409 and against the yen at 2.8878/8908 from 2.8812/8835 previously.
The local currency depreciated against the euro to 4.2968/3009 from 4.2843/2871 and against the pound sterling to 5.4612/4673 from 5.4374/4419.– BERNAMA
