KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu state assembly sitting began here at 9.35am Monday with Speaker Datuk Mohd Zubir Embong reminding assemblymen to strictly follow all rules.
He reminded them to respect one another, adding that they should not hurt each other’s feelings.
“What we are going to do today will be seen by everyone, including observes, majority of them being university students.
“I hope everyone will be an example to them and play their role for the benefit of the state and its people,” he said.
The sitting continues.
The situation was calm at Wisma Darul Iman ahead of the state legislative assembly sitting.
Security was also tight. For the first time, a scanning was carried out at the entrance of the assembly to avoid any untoward incident.
There are several possibilities to the outcome of the assembly – including if Kijal assemblyman Datuk Seri Ahmad Said will drop another bombshell like how he did during the March 8 assembly sitting.
State assembly Speaker Datuk Mohd Zubir Embong had not received any notice of a motion from Ahmad Said for the one-day meeting.
A notice should be given 14 days before an assembly meeting.
Mohd Zubir had said that proper notice should be given for any motion and this was made clear at the last meeting in March when Ahmad Said tried to table an emergency motion, which was subsequently rejected.
The Speaker said it could have been different if Ahmad Said had submitted a notice in time this time around.
Mentri Besar Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman appears to be confident the state assembly meeting will proceed without too many problems and he will pull through.
He earlier said the feud between him and Ahmad Said had been resolved, adding that the political turmoil between the duo was only a feud between two brothers or a mere storm in the teacup.
If Ahmad Said announces his resignation from the party, Barisan Nasional’s seats will be reduced from 17 to 16. The Opposition side will have its seats increased by one to 16.
The result will be a hung assembly in the 32-seat state assembly. The situation will be known later in the day.
All the assemblymen will be attending for this sitting except for Rhu Rendang assemblyman Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang , who is also PAS president.
