JOHOR BAHRU – A private religious school pupil whose legs turned black after he was allegedly assaulted by a warden and the incident became viral on social media since yesterday, has been confirmed to have lapsed into a coma yesterday.
Johor Health, Environment, Education and Information Committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat said Mohamad Thaqif Amin Mohd Gadaffie, 11, underwent double amputation of the legs yesterday to prevent infection to tissues and blood cells.
In a statement here yesterday, he said the victim’s right hand had also turned black from infection.
The predicament of Mohamad Thaqif Amin, who was admitted to the Hospital Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI) on Wednesday, became viral on the social media when he experienced pain in the legs since two weeks ago after he was caned by an assistant warden.
Ayub said HSI was doing its best to give the best service to Mohamad Thaqif Amin whose condition he described as “critical” .
He said the HSI was also trying to determine if the pupil had other illnesses related to the beating, adding that the victim’s mother had taken him to undergo traditional treatment before admitting him to the hospital.
“Mohamad Thaqif Amin has congealed blood and infection which spread to his kidneys and damaged their functions.
“The problem of congealed blood was not only on his legs but also the hands.
“We were informed the patient’s legs had been amputated and dialysis was being carried out while a police report has also been lodged,” he added.
