MEDAN (North Sumatra) – Regional tourism packages should be created to enable tourism activities across other Asian countries, said visiting Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, here.
He said this could be done with the support of the Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT).
He said partnerships in such packages could encourage further efforts towards the provision of better services and creative products.
“If they (tourists) come to Malaysia, usually we will introduce them to tour packages in the country, but this will be different as we will recommend tour packages be offered globally involving Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.
“For instance, if tourists come to Lake Toba, maybe a visit to the Royal Belum (state park in Perak) can be arranged as well,” he told reporters after a gathering with Malaysian students in North Sumatra in conjunction with a mission to promote tourism for Visit Perak Year 2017 in Medan and Jakarta, last night.
Zambry said the international airport project near Lake Toba was currently underway, and this would subsequently allow flights to operate from Lake Toba to Ipoh or Gerik, in Perak.
Meanwhile, Zambry said promotions to attract tourists to Perak was not only done in Asia, but also in Europe and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
“Besides Medan and Jakarta, our delegation has also done similar promotions in Berlin and Dubai in efforts to promote Perak worldwide” he said. – BERNAMA
