PUTRAJAYA – A world-leading obstacle race, Reebok Spartan Race, which will make its debut in Malaysia on Oct 10 has been chosen as the flagship event for the country’s National Sports Day.
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the Reebok Spartan Race, with over 450 events worldwide, was extremely well known among local fitness and endurance enthusiast in the country.
“It shows the rising popularity of this events, Malaysians are serious about fitness and health. This is of course in line with our proactive vision in transforming Malaysia into a sporting nation,” he said at the launch of the race, here today.
Meanwhile, Spartan Race Managing Director Asia Michael Goodwin said Malaysia was chosen as the first race venue in the region due to the vibrant fitness community in the country.
“Malaysians are on the cutting edge of having embraced obstacle course so it was only fitting that we come to Malaysia first,” Goodwin said.
The event is expected to attract 15,000 competitors and spectators from across the country to tackle the 6 kilometer Spartan Sprint with over 22 obstacles.
Registration was opened today at www.spartanrace.my and the venue will be announced later. – BERNAMA
