SUNGAI PETANI – Rapid Penang bus service is providing more inter-city routes in an effort to encourage the public to use public transport.
Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd chief operating officer Mohd Shukri Abdul Rahman said the latest service to be introduced was between Penang Central, Butterworth, and Sungai Petani.
The fare is only RM4.70 per trip for the 43 km ride, he added.
He said a route, between Penang Central, Butterworth, and Parit Buntar, would be launched on Aug 8.
Mohd Shukri told this to reporters after the launch of the Rapid Penang Inter-City Bus Route (Sungai Petani-Butterworth) by Kedah Education, Transport and Housing Committee chairman Datuk Tajul Urus Mat Zain here Sunday.
Meanwhile, Tajul Urus, in his speech said he hoped the plan to introduce stage bus service for nine routes in the Kuala Muda district could be carried soon.
He said the matter had been tabled at the state executive council meeting.
In principle, the parties involved had agreed to it, but was not certain what was causing the delay, he added. – BERNAMA
