GEORGE TOWN: A Rapid Penang bus driver was stabbed in his left thigh by a female passenger on board early this morning.
Aisyamudin Yaacob, 27, was driving when the woman struck in the incident about 5.45am at Jalan Paya Terubong in Relau.
He sustained severe injury and sought treatment at the Penang Hospital. His situation remains critical.
It is believed the woman in her 40s is mentally unstable.
She bolted from the scene immediately after the injured Aisyamudin pulled over the bus.
There were five passengers on board the bus.
Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mior Faridalathrash Wahid confirmed the incident.
He said the police had classified the case under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing hurt.-NST
