MALACCA: The cause of Indonesia AirAsia flight QZ8501 incident must be known for the future safety of the aviation industry, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
He said investigation on the incident is crucial so that the aviation industry knows what happened to the flight QZ8501 so that other planes wound not suffer the same fate.
â€œWe need to know the nature of the incident including the pilotâ€™s and the planeâ€™s response to ensure the safety of other planes in future. Indonesia is leading the investigation and we hope to be able to assist them.
â€œThey had found the tail of the plane and hope they will find the black box in a short while, the black box will bring a big help to the investigation,â€ he told a press conference here, last night.
Earlier, Liow officiated Multimedia Universityâ€™s Chinese New Year Garden Festival at the universityâ€™s campus in Bukit Beruang here.
Flight QZ8501 disappeared from radar screens on Dec 28 last year while travelling to Singapore from Surabaya, Indonesia.
The aircraft with 155 passengers and seven crew members crashed in the waters of Pangkalan Bun, Central Kalimantan, Indonesia.
Indonesiaâ€™s National Search and Rescue Agency said the bodies of 39 passengers had been found and the identity of 16 had been identified by the Indonesian Police Disaster Victim Identification Team.
Meanwhile, Liow said the flood disaster that occurred in the country recently showed that Malaysians of various ethnic backgrounds were united in helping those in need of assistance.
