KUALA LUMPUR – The Puteri UMNO movement is seeking the party leadership to consider fielding more members from the wing as candidates in the coming 14th general election (GE) to woo the young voters.
Its leader, Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said an estimated 45 per cent of voters in the coming 14th general election would be those below the age of 35.
She said if Barisan Nasional (BN) wants to win and remain in power, it should be able to give a strong signal that it sympathised with the young people.
“This means we need candidates who understand their life, their hopes and vision,” she said when opening the Puteri UMNO general assembly here today.
Mas Ermieyati, who is Deputy Tourism and Culture Minister, said as of last Nov 29, Puteri UMNO has 391,316 members and the movement aims to increase it to 500,000 by 2017.
As such, he called on all Puteri UMNO members to work harder, but said that they should not only work in pursuit of the number, but also to look for quality members. – BERNAMA
