KUALA LUMPUR – Puteri Umno will carry out a reshuffle of its bureaus after the 2014 Umno General Assembly in a bid to strengthen the movement to help Umno in facing the next general election.
Its chief, Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, said the reshuffle would also see the number of Puteri Umno bureaus be slashed to only 15 from the current 23.
“Among the bureaus to be emphasised on after this are the bureaus for membership and voters registration, information and oratory, training and cadre programme, social and digital media, economy and entrepreneurship, as well as sports, culture and heritage.
“We will carry out the reshuffle after the conclusion of this general assembly,” she told a press conference here today.
The Umno General Assembly this year will begin with the assemblies of Wanita, Youth and Puteri Umno, which will be opened simultaneously by Umno Deputy President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin tonight.
Mas Ermieyati said Puteri Umno also aimed to register 130,000 new members over the next three years and each state Puteri Umno chief had been specifically entrusted to ensure that the target would be achieved.
“Right now, we have 375,356 members and continuous efforts must be done to increase the number to 500,000 by 2018. I will have any state Puteri Umno chiefs who fail to achieve their respective targets be replaced.
“Apart from that, we will also train approximately 1,000 Puteri Umno leaders at the grassroot level to become orators who will then be entrusted to counter all the opposition’s allegations against government policies,” she said.
On Puteri Umno assembly, Mas Ermieyati said 15 Puteri delegates would debate the Puteri Umno chief’s address tomorrow, covering all motions on religion, politics, social, economy and education. – BERNAMA
