MEDAN – Puteri UMNO is extending its Sekretariat Mahasiswa Nasional (Swinas) overseas to produce more leaders among women undergraduates.
The movement’s chief, Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said Swinas secretariats would be set up overseas to get close to women undergraduates studying at higher education institutions overseas.
She said for a start, a Swinas secretariat would be set up here and then in other cities in Indonesia, followed by Egypt.
“Swinas is important to give female undergraduates the opportunity to hone and show their leadership skills in their respective fields, besides developing young Malaysian women’s potential, in line with the government’s objective of seeing more than 30 per cent women at the decision-making level.
“As such, talented women leaders will be created, who will be an asset for the country’s leadership in future,” she told Bernama, here, recently.
Mas Ermieyati was with members of the Kelab Rakan Kembara Malaysia at the Kembara Sentuhan Ramadan programme in Medan, which was organised in collaboration with the Indonesia UMNO Liaison Body and Medan UMNO Club.
At the event, a memorandum of understanding was also signed between Swinas and Medan UMNO Club to kick off the setting up of Swinas secretariats overseas.
Mas Ermieyati said Swinas was proof of Puteri UMNO’s recognition for the important role of undergraduates as the country’s echelon leaders.
Swinas was launched on Nov 28, 2014 by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to produce young women leaders among undergraduates as part of UMNO’s rejuvenation process. – BERNAMA
