TUMPAT – The Puteri Umno movement is prepared and has outlined its strategy to ensure Barisan Nasional (BN) retains the Pengkalan Kubor state seat in the by-election to be held on Sept 25.
Its leader, Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, said the central committee members were now working with the Kelantan Puteri Umno leaders to realise the goal.
“We have discussed, among others, our strategy and number of Puteri Umno members to be involved during the campaign,” she told reporters after launching the Puteri Umno machinery here today.
She said the movement would work hard to win the votes of young female voters, totaling 5,425 people in the constituency, to ensure a win for BN.
The movement would also identify and trace voters who were registered in Pengkalan Kubor, but staying outside the constituency, to bring them back to exercise their right, she added.
The Pengkalan Kubor by-election is called following the death of its assemblyman, Datuk Noor Zahidi Omar, 57, from liver cancer in a hospital in Guangzhou, China, last Aug 20.
In the last general election, Noor Zahidi, of BN, beat Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) candidate Saharun Ibrahim and an Independent candidate, Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary, with a majority of 1,736 votes. – Bernama
