KUALA LUMPUR – The Puteri Umno movement today criticised Muslim political leaders who do not protect the sanctity of Islam, but were more concerned with pursuing their political and personal agenda.
Its chief, Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, said these leaders were afraid of losing support if they were too vocal in defending Islam, despite being well aware of attempts by religious extremists to create tensions.
“Religious liberalisation, which condones lesbianism, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT), clearly violates the faith of the Muslims, and religious pluralism, which regards all religions, including Islam, the same, is spreading.
“Are we only capable of watching all these and allow this dangerous thinking to destroy the Muslim community?” she said in her speech at the 2014 Puteri Umno assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre today.
Mas Ermieyati said the movement supported whatever decisions by the government and actions by Islamic religious institution in preserving the dignity and sanctity of Islam.
“We appreciate the government’s firmness in deciding to appeal at the Federal Court on a decision by the Court of Appeal in declaring Section 66 of the Syariah Criminal Enactment (Negeri Sembilan) 1992, which prohibits Muslim men from dressing and behaving like a woman, as unconstitutional.
“It was done to protect the interests of Islam,” she added. – BERNAMA
