KUALA LUMPUR- Malaysians from around the country and from all walks of life have been so affected by the tahfiz school fire tragedy that some have gathered to pray for the victims at the site.
They gathered in front of Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah tahfiz school along Jalan Keramat Hujung today to visit the fire scene that claimed 23 lives yesterday morning.
They were in small groups talking on the fire, believed to be the most fatal school fire in decades.
One of them is Kedahan, Noor Lailina Moha Mohtar, 35.
“My husband and I are visiting our friend who has just returned from Mecca. After knowing about the incident, I made my mind to come here.
“I lost my baby two years ago, I cannot imagine how the victims’ parents coping with the loss now.
“I was not able to finish the viral video on the incident, it was heartbreaking,” the mother of three said.
Mayati Yusof, 56, walked 15 minutes from her home to the scene.
“I have kids back at my hometown, I am sad by the news. I am here to pray for the victims,” she said.
Policemen from the forensic unit were seen arriving at the site to continue collecting evidence for their probe into the fire.
As of press time, around 100 people gathered here. -NST
