SHAH ALAM – Puncak Niaga Holdings Bhd (Puncak Niaga) in collaboration with the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) today gave out RM1.3 million through the ‘Kasihku Zakat Selangor’ programme to build houses and provide medical and educational assistance to the asnaf (eligible) group in Selangor.
Puncak Niaga executive chairman, Tan Sri Rozali Ismail said out of the amount, RM500,000 was for the building of 10 houses (RM50,000 each) with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen and a living room, in the Kuala Selangor district.
“Another RM500,000 is allocated for haemodialysis treatment for 21 kidney patients and RM300,000 in educational aid in the form of RM300 pocket money for each of 1,000 needy students.”
Rozali said this at the handing-out of the contributions, here, today. The text of his speech was read by Puncak Niaga executive director (Business Development), Datuk Nasir Khan Illadad Khan.
“It should be emphasised that a corporate company like Puncak Niaga is not just profit-oriented but is also committed to carrying out its corporate social responsibility in the context of managing welfare and sharing of the company’s profits with the needy through its business zakat,” he said.
Meawhile, LZS Asnaf Zakat Distribution Operations chief, Abdul Basith Hamid said the ‘Kasihku Zakat Selangor’ programme, launched last year, had attracted the participation of 32 corporate companies and individuals with their zakat contribution totalling RM17.8 million.
On the building of the 10 houses, he said these were 70 per cent completed and God willing, the recipients would be able to celebrate Ramadan and Aidilfitri in their new homes. – BERNAMA
