SETIU – The RM67.2 million sewage project in Pulau Redang, aimed at maintaining cleanliness of the resort island, is expected to be ready in three years, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman.
He said tender for the project, involving building and upgrading of existing sewage treatment system at 13 hotels and chalets, would be called this August.
“The project, when completed, is capable of addressing various problems often raised by the hotel operators. Drainage problems will be solved.
“However, for the time being, I have instructed the local authority to look into a short-term solution to address the problems,” he told Bernama after a visit to Pulau Redang recently.
In a related development, Ahmad Razif said the state government had decided to build a new jetty at Kampung Teluk Bakau here. The project is expected to cost RM4.5 million.
He said a task force would be set up to monitor cleanliness at Pulau Redang, Pulau Bidong and Pulau Lang Tengah. – BERNAMA
