KUALA LUMPUR: The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) has managed to collect RM285 millions of loan repayments in March.
Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said this was the best performance in repayments since September last year, which has seen an improvement.
“Previously PTPTN only managed to collect about RM50 million per month but now they are able to collect RM100 million per month. The March performance is also the result of the 20 per cent discount given by the government, as announced in the Budget 2015 for full loan repayment.
“As of Feb, there are 2.27 million borrowers of PTPTN involving RM51.6 billion allocations. This is part of the national education democratisation agenda, so that no one is left behind in obtaining a higher education,†he said.
Idris said this after the National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN-i) Lucky Draw Launching 2015 ceremony, here, today.
“SSPN-i was introduced in 2004 and has seen 2.2 million account holders with a total deposit of RM1.6 billion. I am pleased to announce SSPN-i dividend rate for last year was 4.25 per cent, involving RM50.56 million of pay-outs.
“The scheme is a saving instrument that encourages people to make a sound financial plan for future education fund. It is important for us to cultivate a ‘saving culture’,†he said.
Idris then presented winners of SSPN-i X-tra Bonanza Savings 2014, who walked away with RM200, 000 (first place) RM100, 000 (second place) and RM50, 000 (third place).
The lucky draws were introduced in 2012 as a way to promote more SSPN-i depositors. For 2015, a new zone level Vaganza SSPN-i Lucy Draw has been introduced on top of the Bonanza Savings and X-tra Bonanza Savings.
Lucky winners stand a chance to win a BMW 3201 Sports Edition, Honda HR-V 1.8L V, Proton Iriz 1.3L Executive CVT and Yamaha LC 135 motorcycles for this year.
Present at the ceremony were Deputy Education Minister II P.Kamalanathan, PTPTN chairman Datuk Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, PTPTN Management Board Member Senator Mariany Mohammad Yit, Kuala Selangor member of parliament cum PTPTN Management Board Member Datuk Irmohizam Ibrahim.-NST
