KUALA LUMPUR – Proton Holdings Bhd is offering free labour for car repairs and 30 per cent discount on replacement parts for Proton car owners affected by the floods.
Chief Executive Officer Datuk Abdul Harith Abdullah said the company initially offered 20 per cent discount on all repair works for cars affected by the floods.
“We feel that the discount offered earlier may not help much in the current situation and therefore, we have decided to provide a substantial discount for replacement parts at 30 per cent and labour cost will not be charged to Proton customers affected by the floods.
“We advice that you send your Proton cars for repairs at the nearest Proton authorised service centre,” Abdul Harith said in a statement.
The ‘Proton We-Care Prihatin Banjir’ programme, which will run until March 15 next year, will also include free inspection service, valuation of damages and towing assistance from the affected locations to the selected Proton service centres.
Proton owners can contact Proton Customer Care at 1800-888-398 for enquiries, assistance and towing service.
In the meantime, it offers some tips on how to manage flood-affected cars:
* Do not turn on the car engine;
* Do not use a remote control to open the car door, but instead do this manually; and
* Make sure to remove the negative terminal of the car battery to stop the flow of electricity in the car.
All three measures above are intended to minimise damage to equipment, in particular to electrical and mechanical components of the vehicle.
If these steps are taken, some equipment can still be saved.
After turning off the car electricity, one must remove valuables from the car, lock the door manually and get the car towed to an authorised Proton Service Centre. – Bernama
