KUALA LUMPUR – The police have labelled as illegal a proposed peaceful gathering of taxi drivers at four places in the city on Wednesday.
Dang Wangi Police chief ACP Zainol Samah said today the Klang Valley Taxi Drivers Action Committee proposed to hold the gathering at the Craft Complex in Jalan Conlay, Padang Merbok, National Mosque and Merdeka Square.
The committee had sent a notice on the gathering to the police on Nov 6 but did not include the permission letters from the management of these four venues, thus making it an offence under Section 11 of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012, he said.
“The holding of such a gathering will be deemed to be illegal,” he said in a statement.
The gathering proposed to call for a revamp of the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) and cancellation of the application for operation of Uberteksi and Grabcar seen as a threat to the normal taxi service.
Zainol advised holders of taxi permits to ensure that their vehicles were not used in the gathering or they would have to face the law. – BERNAMA
