ROMPIN: Problems relating to price hike of goods by unscrupulous traders will be the main priority of Rompin parliamentary by-election Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Hasan Arifin.
Hasan said he empathised with the people on the issue and pledged to give serious attention to it by bringing their complaints to the government for further action.
“If I am given the chance to be chosen as the Member of Parliament, I will monitor and take seriouns attention on the price hike of goods…this will be my priority,” he said when met by reporters here Saturday.
A local boy from Kampung Ayau, Leban Chondong, Hasan was visiting the Kuala Rompin market here at 7.20 am and took about one hour to mingle with the traders and consumers as well as to monitor the prices of goods.
He also urged the relevant authorities to intensify their monitoring and enforcement activities so as to safeguard the interests of consumers, especially in the rural areas.
“The price hike is due to several factors, including wholesalers taking advantage of the situation whlch forced the traders to raise prices of goods,” he said.
He said essential items in Kuala Rompin market was at a satisfactory level but based on his observation, prices of goods in shops in the interior faced a slight hike.
The Rompin parliamentary by-election on May 5 witnesses a straight fight between Hasan and PAS candidate Nazri Ahmad following the death of its incumbent Tan Sri Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis in a helicopter crash in Semenyih, Selangor last April 4.
