ALOR SETAR – Generally, the preparation and submission of the financial statements of the Kedah government and state agencies in 2015 was good, according the 2015 Auditor-General’s Report Series 2.
The report, tabled in the Dewan Rakyat today, said the financial position of the state government as at Dec 31, 2015, showed a sharp drop compared to 2014.
“The financial performance of the state statutory bodies and local authorities was good.
“The project implementation performance for projects from 2011 to 2015 as at the end of 2015 was good because the project completion percentage was 93.9,” according to the report.
Nevertheless, the report recommended that the state government continue efforts to increase revenue through resources, practise prudent spending, reduce arrears/recoverable loans and repay loans/other debts on schedule.
“This is to enable the state government financial position to be strong, besides improving the governance of the Trust Account Fund to be in line with the main objective of the fund,” the report said.
It also recommended that heads of departments/agencies step up their hands-on involvement in financial matters.
Besides, it said, the heads of department/agencies should create a system of checks and balances, maintain constant vigilance, conduct regular spot checks and evaluation of work undertaken by officers and provide training to upgrade the skills and capability of officers.
“Departments/agencies have to enhance the effective functioning of the Internal Audit Unit,” it said. – BERNAMA
