KUALA NERANG – Construction of the People’s Housing Project (PPR) near Taman Belimbing here is scheduled to be ready next year, Padang Terap Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said today.
He said the project caters for those with income of not more than RM3,000.
“The project is an initiative by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to help the less affordable, especially the young people, to have their own house.
“It is a proof of the government’s concern in ensuring more people in the low income group get to own houses,” he said during a visit to the project site here today.
Also present were Housing and Local Government, Water Supply, Water Resources and Energy Committee chairman Datuk Badrol Hisham Hashim and Padang Terap District Council president Fathullah Suhaimi.
Mahdzir, who is also Education Minister, said the project, costing RM46 million, was now 40 per cent completed.
“There are 286 units of houses, with each costing between RM150,000 and RM160,000.
“However, the government is providing a subsidy of 75 per cent from the actual cost of the house,” he added. – BERNAMA
